Farm & Land Stewardship Teacher

40-50% Part-time Position 

The Ithaca Waldorf School is currently seeking a passionate and dedicated individual to fill the position of Farm and Land Stewardship Teacher. This exciting role offers the opportunity to be a key contributor in developing and expanding our educational farm program. As the Farm and Land Stewardship Teacher, you will play a vital role in teaching students about gardening practices, cultivating annual vegetables, establishing perennials and orchards. We are looking for a candidate who has some animal husbandry experience to take care of our cows, chickens and other critters.

Responsibilities:

  • Further develop and implement the curriculum for the education farm program, focusing on sustainable farming practices and animal care.

  • Teach 8 classes per week to students Grade 1 - 8 during the academic school year, providing engaging and informative lessons on organic gardening, sustainable land use and soil enhancing techniques, and animal management.

  • Guide students in hands-on activities related to planting, harvesting, and tending to crops and farm animals.

  • Organize and supervise the maintenance of the emerging farm operation, ensuring a safe and productive environment for students and staff.

  • Collaborate with other faculty members to integrate farm-based education into the overall school curriculum.

  • Conduct regular assessments and evaluations of students' progress and provide constructive feedback.

  • Participate in weekly faculty meetings to discuss program updates, student performance, and other relevant topics.

  • Actively participate in ongoing professional development opportunities to stay updated on the latest farming techniques and educational practices.

Requirements:

  • Experience in Waldorf education or Waldorf teacher training is preferred.

  • Proven experience in sustainable farming practices, animal care, and land stewardship.

  • Strong teaching and communication skills with the ability to engage and inspire students of various ages.

  • Familiarity with curriculum development and lesson planning.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.

  • Passion for sustainable agriculture and a commitment to environmental stewardship.

Salary range $16,000 - 20,000 (commensurate with experience)
